After more than one year from the Russian aggression against Ukraine, IZA is organizing an online workshop to encourage the discussion among researchers about the impacts of conflicts on countries directly involved, as well as on neighboring countries, based on research of past military conflicts in Europe (e.g., the wars in the Balkans in the 1990s and World War II), in the Middle East, in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
The three main strands of literature brought together in the workshop are:
- research analyzing the short-term and long-term effects of conflicts on labor markets of countries in war, which influence growth, innovation, and development
- research analyzing the impact of large inflows of forced migrants on native workers in the receiving countries as well as with the social and labor market integration of refugees
- research relating the impact of war preparation, warfare and reconstruction on innovation and R&D.
Here you find the link to the IZA page for the workshop, which contains additional information about potential topics and how to submit, as well as the links to the online application and registration forms.
